We live on a Caribbean island, and the choices for quality furniture are nearly non-existent. When I discovered Joybird it sounded too good to be true- custom built in the USA, fun colors, updates every step of the way, free shipping anywhere in the states, plus all the rave reviews from other customers. I had to go for it!
However, not much went the way I hoped.
Firstly, the updates weren't working for my order. My order placed at the end of May was expected to be built by the first week of July but I couldn't track the progress at all. Even into July it still said my order was "processing." I was very much looking forward to checking out the build progress. Too bad.
The order didn't actually ship until July 22nd. There was some confusion because we needed the couch shipped to a freighter company in FL (so it could be sent to our island) instead of to a home address. The delivery folks didn't understand this so we had to email and call them before they delivered the couch. Finally happened on August 16th.
Once it arrived on St. Thomas we were very impressed with the nice job Joybird did with the packaging. The couch was well-protected on its adventure, even though it was quite dusty when we opened it. Also the sectional couldn't be put together as one of the clips was put on upside-down. For a company whose quality control department boasts "if it's not good enough for us it's not going to pass inspection," I was very disappointed. This means that they didn't even TRY to put the two pieces of the sectional together to make sure they fit before sending it off to us.
I don't think I would be so upset if we were in the states. When we called them about the mistake they straight away said they would send someone out to us to fix it, or come pick up the couch for repairs. But obviously that is impossible for us. Thank goodness it was an easy fix, but I believe for the price you pay for the product it is a crime that we had to manipulate it at all.
As far as the finished product goes, it is overall a very stylish and comfortable couch. But one of the cushions arrived flat. Like they didn't wrap the fabric tightly enough or something. The buttons don't have the same tufted effect as the other cushions and it looks saggy.
Lastly, the sectional is also a completely different from the one we ordered! Online photos show three buttons lengthwise in each cushion but there are actually four. Still looks good so we're not worried about that. Just one more thing we noticed in this catastrophe of an order. Easy fix if Joybird would only update their online renditions.
We're still giving it 3 stars because most of the negative happened due to the build and delivery process, overall the sectional is now OK (after repairing it ourselves). I still hate that saggy cushion. I thought maybe I was being crazy and picky but when I mentioned it to my boyfriend he agreed that yeah, he noticed it right away too. And I guess we should be able to be picky when you shell out decent cash for a custom built sectional.
Hopefully no one else will have such a disappointing experience with Joybird. We were expecting so much more.
