See how Steffy Degreff turned her previously unfinished attic space into the perfect playroom for her son to enjoy for years to come.
Steffy Degreff, founder of the popular blog Steffy's Pros and Cons, has a passion for two things: fashion, particularly vintage clothing, and her family. When the opportunity presented itself to devote more time to both, she naturally jumped at the chance. In 2012, she graduated from fashion school and began selling vintage clothing and hasn't looked back since.
When Steffy and her family moved into their 1954 home earlier this year, they knew they found their perfect dream home. It's a place they are able to grow into, but there are also make it their own right away. There was one area of the house where they had an opportunity to do exactly that – their unfinished, A-frame attic space. Steffy had always dreamed of having an area like this, and she instantly knew that she wanted to convert it into an area her family could use.
"We knew right away we wanted to finish the space into a playroom for our son." - Steffy Degreffs
To do that, they ripped out the old insulation, laid down new floors, and painted the walls a cool white. They then added cubbies for their son's toys, a multi-purpose sofa, and durable soft furnishings. With just a look elbow grease, they were able to totally transform the space into what it looks like today.
Steffy's new playroom is simply gorgeous. Their ultimate goal for this design was to create an area that could remain fun and age-appropriate for her son throughout different stages of his life. And when you look at the playroom, it gives off the inviting and happy atmosphere that is perfect for a toddler's area, but, she kept the space versatile and open enough to change and grow over time. It completely fits into her general aesthetic – neutral tones with fun pops of color.
Steffy centered her room design around the Eliot Twin Sleeper. She was originally drawn to it because it could work in this small space as a couch and a twin-sized bed and because it comes in an extensive color palette. She used the Eliot Twin Sleeper to add a vibrant pop of color that is perfect for the room.
"Joybird was a lifesaver in our smaller space. It had an option for a small couch that doubled as a pullout bed, which was exactly what we were looking for." - Steffy Degreff
The playroom Steffy created just shows the unlimited possibilities that can come from a complete renovation. And, best of all, her son loves it just as much as she does!
"My son enjoys playing in the space, and I love seeing how happy it makes him!" - Steffy Degreffs
